To follow up on this, I can now confirm that Mac OS X + ra_serf is
having a problem with 'http://localhost:<port>/' as a BASE_URL, but
not if you replace it with 'http://127.0.0.1:<port>/' or use a valid
DNS name. I'll dig into this as time permits, or, uh, patches
welcomed. =) -- justin
