I am using bash. And as mentioned below (in my original post) I also
have this problem under Windows (where I set LANG by 'set').

Not really, the first one is English (wrong) and the second one is
German (right).

I set the environment variables as I always do. Shouldn't all messages
be in English if the environment variables were set wrong? Or, in other
words, I think that setting the environment variables is a 'all or
nothing' thing, either all messages are shown in German or they are
all in English.
