1.4-rc4 fails to build on solaris 10 (update 1)

I thought I would attempt to build the latest and greatest release candidate
on a sparc running Solaris 10 (update 1).

Configured thusly:
./configure --with-berkeley-db --prefix=/usr/local/svn-1.4rc4

It fails: (after spitting out hundreds of lines of errors in the link
command)

ld: fatal: relocations remain against allocatable but non-writable sections
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
*** Error code 1
make: Fatal error: Command failed for target
`subversion/libsvn_ra_dav/libsvn_ra
_dav-1.la'

As a minor additional point of information, the bdb I have installed is
BerkeleyDB 4.4.20 (plus the two patches that Sleepycat has released)
