I've tested it with a normal account and I can confirm your answer. Thanks
for the info.

Now, I have some thoughts on this 'problem'. First, shouldn't we document
this suggested installation procedure in the INSTALL file? For UNIX admins
this is probably stating the obvious, but for others (like me) it helps to
remind them of this best practice.

Second, if the Subversion client can be run as root, it should be possible
to run the python tests as root as well. How can we otherwise allow users to
test this part of the provided functionality? This is the only test that
fails currently under root, so I might as well fix it.
