I apologize for the offensive comment about being argumentative. I
normally censor myself better than that. It wasn't productive.

I don't disagree with the developers' model; the functional spec and
even the implementation make perfect sense to me. I disagree with only
what you Greg said, that locks are meant to protect some people and not
others. I feel that locks are meant to protect everyone, and to prevent
wasted time.

I will admit, however, that if people abuse locks, the lock can be used
to protect one's self at the expense of others. But I consider that to
be abuse, and subject to personal complaint when a person uses it that
way.
