reminder: Issue 2423

Patch is already attached to 2423 and I believe it to be correct.

Since this has potential security issues, I would like to see this
at least back-ported to 1.3.x

(It passes the tests on all of the builds/platforms I have when
patched into 1.3.x and 1.2.3 builds)
