I spent all last night working on this and I am rebuilding again as I
write this. One thing that I worked out with David James is that the
configure option '--without-shared' is incompatible with any of the
bindings (I had used that option to make debugging something else
easier). It would be nice for 1.4 to disable the bindings completely if
that option is used (it was at least 3 full compile/test/install cycles
before I realized that).

I've gone and replaced the SuSE 10.0 provided APR/APR-UTIL/Neon with
ones I compiled just today (I'm running `make check` right now), just to
make sure that there isn't any confusion going on between /usr/lib and
/usr/local/lib (since the errors I was getting all last night seemed to
be that the Perl bindings were unable to load apr).

As soon as `make check` completes, I'll carefully root out all
preinstalled SVN::_CORE files before trying the bindings again. I
should know by noonish EDT; I really need to get a faster box at home (I
wonder if the wife would agree ;-)

John
