If you're versioning /etc, you might be interested in the meta-data
patches/branch.

the branch; see

patches against 1.2.0rc2 (which apply with a small fuzz also against the
released version).

Or, maybe even better, take a look at fsvs.tigris.org - I believe that's what
you'd like to get at :-)
