What I meant was that -- maybe because of a broken proxy -- the
on-disk repository somehow has some wrong values which cause the "svn
up" to fail every time.

There is probably a transparent proxy in between; And it could very well
be the cause:
In the mean time I have been testing some more, and I now also had the
error on the NFS mount *when checking out*!

svn co http://svn.open-mpi.org/svn/ompi/trunk trunk3 svn: REPORT
request failed on '/svn/ompi/!svn/bc/7507/trunk'
svn: The REPORT request returned invalid XML in the response: XML parse
error at line 1: mismatched tag (/svn/ompi/!svn/bc/7507/trunk)

This clearly rules out any on-disk corruption.

I'll try to get the proxy details.
