It looks like Debian unstable moved from 1.2.0 to '1.2.3a' (whatever
_that_ is) between the time I sent my message and the time you did
(according to the ChangeLog, 9th September).

Debian stable and testing are still on 1.1.4, according to the pages at
http://packages.debian.org/testing/devel/subversion (but then I don't
use Debian, so I may be missing something).

And since I sent my original message, Slackware (which I _do_ use) has
also picked up Subversion, so I may now be down to only one platform
where I need to build my own from source.
