Corruption of open MS Office files?

Hi there,

A co-worker has on two occations had his Word document
corrupted after committing changes while the document
was open in Word. I could not find any bug reports on
this. We are using TortoiseSVN to check in stuff, so I
don't know who's to blame.

I have personally experienced a slightly different
problem a couple of times, but in the same setting:
committing an Office file while it was open (I believe
this was PowerPoint). The problem was that Subversion
claimed the checksum was wrong (sorry, I don't
remember the exact wording). My way out was to patch
the entries file (remove the entry and then update,
then overwrite with the new version and then commit).

I was using file://, while my co-worker was using
http:// - not that I think it matters.

So a crude generalization of these incidents is that
there is something fishy about committing open office
files :-)

[By the way, we're using SVN 1.0.5. Server is Linux
and clients are Windows XP SP2]
