patch review for 1.2.2

I'd like to get 1.2.2 released in the next few days. Breser has been
alerted.

We have a serious compatibility bug ('svn st -u' fails against
pre-1.2 mod_dav_svn), which nearly justifies the release by itself.
Still, there are at least ten other bugfixes nominated in the STATUS
file. We definitely have critical mass for a 1.2.2 release, and I
know that other projects (like subclipse) are waiting for it.

So, please, do some patch review!
