Here's a zero-overhead proposal for getting us there:
- Write a script which parses the mailing list and produces a list of
the most active contributors to patch-related threads. We could also
quickly figure out whether a patch was committed by looking at whether
the thread contains text such as "Committed in rXXXXX". It's also
possible to do fancier analysis, if that's your thing :)

We don't need a new log message format in order to track code
contributions -- we can just use the mailing list!

Cheers,

David
