[PATCH] Fix for locking switch bug (Philip, please review)

Here's my fix for the bug that occurred when attempting to lock a
switched file. Philip, note that I had to make tweaks to the
expected status of your test to get it to pass--I'm pretty sure that
the changes I made are correct, but I'd like to have a look at the
patch before I commit it.
