I will second that! We get a lot of complaints about this in Subclipse.
Mostly because the Eclipse CVS client has it.

Along similar lines it would be helpful if the notification framework could
communicate status information about the number of files. For example,
when doing a checkout if there were some kind of initial notification that
said there 854 files and/or 1.25 MB coming, then we could provide proper
progress bar updating. It would be nice if all of the operations like
checkout, update, switch, merge etc.. had this.
