For issue 2174 it would show a bit more, but that could be a special
case :)

My point it that I think it unlikely we can make the error messages
sufficiently informative to describe broken working copies, we have
status to do that.

If you think adding "missing or" to the message is sufficient to fix
the issue I'm not going to argue further (but then I don't mind the
cryptic error messages, so I would not have bothered trying to fix the
issue in the first place).
