In the way that is the most elegant :)

We don't support an in-tree build of SWIG at present, so I don't know
whether the feature is needed. The patch will be easier to review if
it's smaller (if I were to apply one of your earlier patches I would
drop the rpm stuff because I know nothing about it) so you might
consider just submitting the changes to make Subversion work with
1.3.24.
