Interesting. "-Wpointer-arith -Wwrite-strings -Wshadow" were already added to
my build - by the auto-tools? I don't know. (automake v1.8.3, autoconf v2.59.)

"-Wdeclaration-after-statement" is not accepted by my GCC 3.3.3, though I
certainly wish it would check for this.
