I think the default blocksize depends on the version of the OS you are
running as well as the size of the partition in question. I can say
that having a larger blocksize than most of your small files (e.g.
email) can noticebly improve performance. When I was still running a
Win32 email server, I used a 8192 (or what is 4096) byte blocksize for
better performance and didn't worry too much about the slack space.
