Do they have legitimate concerns, such as if you work with a lot of
unmergable file types? If your files can all be merged you would be
better off attacking it from that angle. Let them dream up their
scenarios and then demonstrate how it is handled.

Finally, did you see this patch posted back in July, which provides a
temporary locking workaround?
