It's not a question of "still"; in the name of keeping things simple,
I've been avoiding designing complexity into FSFS before it's needed.

But this sounds like a relatively convincing demonstration of need.
I'll think about the best strategy for introducing this while retaining
backward compatibility, since it's a bit too late to do so incompatibly.
