Since my co-workers pollute their files with dead whitespace at
the ends of lines and on lines that ought instead be blank, i've
made them load this:

It's not automated trimming, but it at least alerts you to the
problem.

For emacs users, M-x customize-variable RET show-trailing-whitespace RET
