That was a convenience for me, I even planned to post those changes in a
separate patch. You can safely ignore them, they are not related in any
way with the i18n thing.

This is silly, I haven't used automake either. I have an
internationalized "svn" without invoking automake once. Prove me I'm
introducing such dependency.
