I looked around (INSTALL, FAQ, README, Book, etc) and couldn't find this
mentioned anywhere. Is this taken care of automatically on unixy OS'?

The Win32 installer does this, but might it be worth a mention in the
INSTALL file or book, perhaps, for people who build from source or just
get the binaries?
