Timeout while updating wc

I've created a fairly big repository. I'm getting this:

$ cd <top of a wc>
$ svn up
svn: REPORT request failed on '/sda/!svn/vcc/default'
svn: REPORT of '/sda/!svn/vcc/default': timed out waiting for server
(https://svn)

And this in the server's log:
[Wed Mar 03 20:31:11 2004] [error] [client 10.53.3.194] Provider
encountered an error while streaming a REPORT response. [500, #0]
[Wed Mar 03 20:31:11 2004] [error] [client 10.53.3.194] A failure
occurred while driving the update report editor [500, #190004]

How can I debug this problem further?
