Well, here's my 20 agoroth worth of Subversion praise.
Subversion simply rocks, and I'm using it for most of my work for many
months now. It beats the hell out of CVS, and I'd never want to switch
back. I like it a great deal and I think the Subversion development
community has done a great job on a great product.
As version 1.0.0 is released, I hope Subversion will see even wider
popularity than it does now. It has been very stable and mostly bug-free
since I remember it, but lately it became faster, some small bugs were
eliminated, and as a general rule it was made much better.
Subversion has some parts of it by me as well, and working on Subversion
and hanging out with the developers was a very good experience. I learned
about how to maintain a good quality of the code, organize and maintain a
community well, and in general create a really good atmosphere around a
free software project.
In regards to beer: I think the beer obsession is an unfortunate effect of
Linus Torvalds' liking of it. Traditionally hackers were people who did
not drink at all. I am a non-drinker as well, and never really drank much.
So replace beer with "sugar-free, de-caffienated soda" and I'll be happy!
(of course "beer" sounds better and snappier, but so does just "soda")
So, thanks to everybody who has made Subversion happen. And everybody,
keep up the good work!
And happy birthday to Karl Fogel and Sander Striker as well! (in the midst
of all of this confusion)
Regards,
Shlomi Fish
