Here is the FAQ :-)

It means that the server (where repositories are) will not work due to
the Berkeley DB's shared-memory segment problems on the the Win 9x
(95/98/ME) plattforms but clients will.

Hi folks (copy to the dev list to), maybe this should be said clearer at
the link above? I think many people have a FAQ about this FAQ this days
(how will it be after 1.0? :-)
