This thread has kind of wound down, but for the record, my objections to
this argument are:

  * Changing the name of .svn on Windows, without breaking existing
working copies, would introduce complexity we don't want, which would
have to stick around for a long time.

  * The inconsistency between platforms would have to stick around for a
long time, even though the bug will be gone in a couple of years.

  * Working copies are currently portable between platforms in the
absence of eol-style properties, and we'd be breaking that.

  * We have the potential to make working copies portable in the
presence of eol-style properties (you'd wind up with a working copy with
the wrong eol-style, but it would still work properly), and we'd lose
that potential.
