One issue that is not mentioned, but that has caused problems in the
past, is the use of a distribution's customised autoconf/libtool. We
have released tarballs containing files produced by Debian's
customised autoconf/libtool and these did not work on some non-Linux
platforms. It might be advisable to use pristine GNU versions of
these tools when creating a tarball.
