Very intriguing. :-)

It sounds like you want to use something other than the command line tools to
do this (and looking at the rest of this thread, others have suggested the
same).

You should really look at using the bindings to get what you want done.
They're pretty easy to use, and you'll get the information you seek with a
lot less pain. :-) Besides, the command line client has changed it's output
in various ways several times, and depending on the output being formatted a
particular way might not be the best of ideas. :-)
