Er, I just want to point out that the committers have no special
powers w.r.t. this mailing list. They don't get to say what's
appropriate and what's not -- or rather, they get to say that exactly
as much as anyone else does.

Being a committer just means having commit access. Any other
influence a committer may have is by the consent of the influenced.
