Julian

Let me explain something real quick.

I may be talking about the Mandrake RPM generation.

However the PATCHES that take place to effect the quiet compilation are
in a two-dozen places in the regular build tree and the STANDARD
Makefile.

To wit:

Mandrake RPM - swith to the correct directory and call make using the
Mandrake RPM Makefile, which:

1. creates a tarball of the regular build tree.
2. Puts those files somewhere.
3. Unpacks them in a standard way.
4. Installs any patches
5. Calls the regular build process using the STANDARD Makefile.in etc
6. Repackages the compiled results.

As you can see, the part that you as a non-Mandrake RPM user would be
exposed to is step 5.

You and I are talking about the same process.

I take YOUR stock files, and when I apply the patch and do a STOCK
compile, the noise goes away.

If it were as simple as a single line, I think people would have
effected this a long time ago.

Don't you?
