Re: Why multiple error strings?

Well, having the generic error text at all can be convenient if code
wants to report an error and has nothing special to say about it. But,
displaying both pieces of information is a bit of a botch, in my
opinion.

I have a proposal to clean up our error reporting; see:

It got a little bogged down in the details of how to report long error
messages, though.
