contains Karl's reasoning. To some extent, it died more for lack of
developers willing to fight for it than for presence of developers
willing to fight against it.

For now you can solve this with a wrapper. If you want to improve on
that situation, rather than adding a one-off flag intended to allow for
interfaces exactly like TkDiff, I'd prefer to see a more general
solution intended to allow for many interfaces. (Which, I'm afraid,
makes the problem signficantly harder. See
