Well, "cvs edit" sets you up to do "cvs editors", which your proposal
seems not to do. That is, "cvs edit" makes a central note that this
person is editing, and others can learn of this. This is, of course,
part of the cascade into locking. Sounds like you're OK with leaving
this part out, right? It makes it hard to document the function,
though, and makes the product a bit quirkier and less comfortable.

Just curious: why can't you do this with a wrapper, rather than a
modified program? Either way, you're depending on the users to
install your special thing-a-ma-bob.
