Since we now know that hashdb works, and that dumbdb and dbm does not,
all that remains is to check if gdbm works or not. I don't have it
though, so I can't test. If it does work, then it makes sense to keep
using anydbm, but check that the DBM is either hashdb or gdbm.

As I can now append new info to issues, I'm reverting this thread
back to the issue tracker... :-)
