Exactly. After seeing posts threatening (facetiously, I trust) to change the "private" syntax arbitrarily to make sure clients are using only the "right" (read "public") syntax, I wanted to make sure we realized that we really can't expect the DeltaV-compliant syntax to be private, and maybe we should not try to prevent bookmarking of that syntax.
The Redirect idea does a wonderful job solving the CLIENT-side problem of *discovering* the DeltaV syntax of a revision. If we are to allow bookmarking of the DeltaV syntax (which I agree we should), then we still must solve the same SERVER-side problems (i.e. spiteful administrators :-) as if we allow the client to generate the DeltaV syntax.
Your RFC-conformance argument to the "change the default !svn out of {spite|QA}" proponents is (to me at least) particularly convincing. I believe it should be part of the repository administrator's responsibility that the version URI of a resource does not change. If it does, said administrator's gets to deal with the fallout. SVN should make it easy to keep the version URI stable so the administrator stays out of trouble with his/her users.
