Careful, Ben -- are you saying his plan sounds reasonable, or that it
has a reasonable chance of being applied if submitted? I think the
latter is the main question Steve is asking.

If someone doesn't publicly commit to reviewing/applying such a patch,
Steve, then I think the answer is that it doesn't have much chance of
getting applied. At least, I wouldn't want you to invest a lot of
your time on any other assumption...
