Ah, okay. Well, one nice thing about this approach is that all of the
changes were regressionnable against 0.23; this means that nothing is
fundamentally broken. If we decide to ditch 0.23 to make the SSL cutover
easier, that's fine by me (less code is much easier to maintain than more
code).

Also, we may eventually want to invest some energy in determining a better
overall mechanism for integrating with neon. At that point, the 0.23 support
would be an albatross.
