If "doing the same thing" were the only requirement, we'd leave the
present code in, and just live with its unsightly blemishes. The
problem arises when "the same thing" turns out to be only the
starting point for a vast galaxy of creative new requirements,
without a matching galaxy of creative new architecture.

I can't recall a better illustration of a quote I read recently:
"Architecture is how we prevent unnecessary creativity." We need
some architecture, here, and then maybe we won't need so much
creativity.

(BTW, if anyone can remind me of the attribution of that quote, I'd
be grateful!)
