Voting for the patch won't hurt, but note that there's no formal
system where the top vote-getters get checked in or anything.

I guess I'm -0 on this feature going in before 1.0. There's a high
likelihood that some bugs (albeit minor ones) will sprout from such a
large and system-dependent change, and developers will have to spend
time finding and fixing those bugs. Meanwhile, there's no compelling
reason why it needs to be in 1.0 -- it's not as if CVS does this.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a good feature. But if we're going
to get to 1.0, we have to draw the line somewhere, and IMHO this kind
of enhancement falls on the other side of that line.

Sorry if that's discouraging... My hope is that this will motivate
people to tackle pre-1.0 bugs instead of coming up with new features,
so that we can get to the fun stuff sooner :-).
