RE: [PATCH] -std-c89 not supported

OK I've been having a bash at this and I can get -std=c89 excluded, and I'm
trying to get it included on another platform I found here that supports C89
(ironically Solaris).

However, when trolling through the output of autogen.sh and ./configure, I
was puzzled as to where the tests such as

Checking whether gcc accepts -g... yes

came from, and it appears from the autoconf tools themselves. This seems to
be the 'right' spot for testing which options are supported by the compiler
- for Subversion and everything else.

So, should I make a request to the autotools maintainers (and supply a
possible patch to autoconf/c.m4) for this check to be a standard part of the
autoconf tools suite ? Granted, this is the long way round.
