Here are the results of the poll, as gleaned from the list archives.
"Votes" are from people who expressed their own opinion; "proxy" is what
they said about other peoples' opinions. I haven't counted my vote.

    * for
          o votes: 6 (always), 3 (option), 1 (either)
          o proxy: 1 (always)
    * against
          o votes: 1 (always)
          o proxy: 0
    * don't care
          o votes: 2
          o proxy: 0

I think this clearly indicates that people do want the .svn directory to
be hidden on Windows, wherefrom cometh revision 6058. There is no config
option; I believe an option would be more trouble than it's worth.
