Apache's memory footprint

From: Daniel Gehriger <bulk_at_linkcad.com>

I just imported the "boost" (www.boost.org) library into a SVN repository,
then tried to check it out over http (mod_dav_svn). The first checkout
failed, but I managed to restart it, even though this takes forever.

I found that the apache process consumes several hundreds (!!) of Mbytes
during the checkout, and since my machine "only" has 512MB, this might be
the reason for the slow performance. Isn't this memory footprint a bit
excessive ?

[OS Win2k Pro, Apache 2.0.45, BDB 4.0.14, SVN 0.23]
