So, if I make a branch, I have to change the external linking in the new
branch, which means making a branch in the external repository. Hrm.

I know what the branching policy is because I run the other repository in
this case :-)

This is immaterial in one case and a difficulty in the other case.
Specifically, the case where I'm wanting to use the external to store the
files elsewhere but use it exactly the same....
