svn: failure during string recoding

Hi!

I just got the following mysterious errors:

svn co file:///svn/test/trunk test2
A test2/ClusterXML
[...]
A test2/CustomControls/trash26x26.ctl
svn: Invalid argument
svn: failure during string recoding

and
svn co http://freya/test/trunk test3
A test3/ClusterXML
[...]
A test3/CustomControls/ArrowDown.ctl
A test3/CustomControls/SaveAs.ctl
svn: Invalid argument
svn: could not checkout a file
svn: could not add a file
svn: failure during string recoding

Note the different file (and message ;-)!
Both are on the same machine, Debian Woody, Apache 2.0.44, svn 0.21.0.

I can check out both files just fine using a web browser, and they are
intact.Interestingly, under WIN2K I see (same svn version):

A WW/CustomControls/SaveAs.ctl
WARNING: error decoding UTF-8 for ?
A WW/CustomControls/continous.ctl
A WW/CustomControls/monat.ctl
A WW/CustomControls/next.ctl
A WW/CustomControls/up-down bool.ctl
A WW/CustomControls/exit.ctl

A WW/CustomControls/grid2.ctl
A WW/CustomControls/_CtlOverview.vi
WARNING: error decoding UTF-8 for ?
A WW/CustomControls/dyn-stat.ctl

Hmmm, again different files??
Any ideas??
