you've mentioned this 'file is out of date' problem several times, and
i get the impression you think it's a bug, but i still haven't seen a
simple set of steps to reproduce it. if you can give us a transcript
of the commands you need to run to get this behavior on a clean
repository, i'm sure people would be happy to either point out why the
behavior is needed, or fix the bug.
