Looking at the coreutils source, this seems to be dependent on some
determination of the POSIX.2 version. If I simply download the
coreutils 5.0 source and configure and build it, "head -1" works fine.
(As long as I don't define a _POSIX2_VERSION environment variable.)

Regardless, breaking this feature seems like a tremendously bad idea,
even worse than what glibc has done to errno lately.

That's more elegant anyway, so I'm +1 on it.
