Problem using Python Bindings

I've tried for a while, yet I still get the same error when trying to do
a
import svn._wc in python:
ImportError: /usr/local/apr/lib/libaprutil-0.so.0: undefined symbol:
XML_SetElementHandler

Yes, I've verified that I have expat installed and am building apr-util
with it.
Anyone else know how to remedy this?
