Well said. I would also like to mention that if the sys op of your site
gets to decide what is and isn't installed then something is wrong at
your site. System operators can voice concerns but in the end, they
exist to support the people USING the system. If the USERS want a
program then barring security, license, support, and/or monetary issues
the system operator should have no say at all. I suspect "management" at
your site needs to be hit with a clue-bat.
I would also point out that in many organizations, as long as you follow
company policy you generally have great leeway in installing your own
programs independent of your system operator. This is especially true if
you have a "business need" for said program.
